In November 2025, the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) published its “Recommendations for Upgrading the Nature Data Value Chain for Market Participants” following more than four years of research, market consultation, and pilot testing. The eight proposals are designed to drive a value-chain–wide shift in how nature-related data is discovered, assessed for quality, and made accessible to position this data as a strategic global public good.
Ken Bagstad and Liv Watson, Senior Fellows at the Data Foundation, helped shape the development of the second recommendation: Understanding metadata requirements for nature data. On March 13th, 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM ET (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM GMT) Ken and Liv will join Cathrine Armour, TNFD's Director of Data Initiatives, to provide a technical overview of the proposed nature metadata framework and explain its significance within the wider landscape of nature and geospatial data collection and application, aligning with the Data Foundation’s broader 2026 focus on advancing nature data interoperability.
