Overview
This February, the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) is expected to issue a new project solicitation, called "Informing Evidence-Building Capacity among State, Local, Territorial, and Tribal Governments within a National Secure Data Service" – offering an opportunity to explore how a future National Secure Data Service (NSDS) could support capacity building for research and data science across levels of government. Join the Data Foundation’s Data Coalition initiative for a members-only roundtable with Heather Madray, Supervisory Program Director for the National Secure Data Service (NSDS) pilot project at NCSES, to learn more about upcoming plans for NSDS in 2024 and progress made since it was launched last year.
The National Secure Data Service pilot was authorized and funded in the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act as an exploratory project into a federal data sharing service to facilitate access for evidence-building and statistical activities. The NSDS implements several recommendations from the 2017 Commission for Evidence-Based Policymaking and has long been a priority of the Data Foundation.
