Overview
On May 11, 2023, the Data Foundation and the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) hosted a public forum on how HHS-OIG can modernize access to publicly available oversight data. The forum provided an opportunity for the data community to offer feedback to HHS-OIG on ways to enhance this modernization effort.
Access to data on healthcare programs and policies plays a crucial role in promoting effective oversight and efficiency of our nation’s healthcare programs and the health and welfare of the people they serve. Open data sets and easy-to-use digital tools can prevent patient safety issues, avert fraud, and help reduce program costs by improving integrity and ease compliance. During the public forum, we engaged with a broad range of stakeholders, including, for example, healthcare providers, compliance professionals, and health technology companies, to gain insights on how to modernize access to publicly available oversight data.
Individuals from the data and technology community, academic institutions, non-profit organizations, and the general public were invited to participate in the event.
