WASHINGTON, D.C., December 2, 2025 – As the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform meets for a full markup on the Information Quality Assurance Act and well as other legislation related to government transparency and accountability, the Data Foundation released the following statement:
The Data Foundation reaffirms our strong support for the Information Quality Assurance Act and urges the House Oversight Committee to advance this legislation through markup. We enthusiastically endorsed the bill in 2024 because it establishes critical expectations that federal agencies use the best reasonably available information and evidence when making decisions that affect Americans’ lives and livelihoods. The bill makes important updates to longstanding law that affects how we practically use data and evidence in government by requiring that evidence be fit-for-purpose—ensuring agencies use data and information that is not only high-quality but also appropriately aligned with their intended regulatory and policy uses. This sophisticated approach to evidence standards, combined with practical transparency requirements, will foster more effective, accountable, and evidence-informed federal decision-making that the American people deserve.
