Hyon Kim is a Senior Fellow for Data Policy at the Data Foundation. She was the Program Director of Data.gov at the General Services Administration for most of the program’s history. In her role, Hyon led the U.S. government’s open data program from its early days of development under the Open Data Policy through its growth under the OPEN Government Data Act.

As a leader in open government data for the last decade, Hyon has extensive experience in the policy, technical, and implementation challenges in expanding access to the government’s data to meet the needs of the American public and reach the goals of increased transparency and trust in government.

Prior to working on open data issues, Hyon served in a number of national security positions, including at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and as Counsel to the 9/11 Commission. She has also worked in the legislative branch, as Counsel to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. Hyon holds degrees from New York University School of Law and Yale University.
