WASHINGTON, D.C., November 21, 2025 – The following is a statement from Amanda Cash, Senior Director of the Center for Data Policy at the Data Foundation about reorganizations announced this week at the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Energy:

"The Data Foundation is closely monitoring the announced reorganizations at the Department of Education and Department of Energy. As these agencies undergo structural changes and transfer functions across the federal government, it is imperative that the data protections promised to the American people remain intact and that data collection activities continue without interruption to serve the public interest. Transparency about how data will be used, managed, and protected across multiple agencies is essential for maintaining public trust. For decades, the American taxpayers invested in building robust data infrastructure and collections that inform policy decisions. These valuable data assets must remain accessible, well-maintained, and available as resources regardless of which agencies assume operational responsibility. The Data Foundation stands ready to work with stakeholders to ensure that evidence-informed decision-making and responsible data stewardship remain priorities throughout this transition."
