Engaging for Impact: Maximizing Stakeholder Participation in Evidence-Informed Government

The Data Foundation released a toolkit to help agencies meet the engagement requirements in the Evidence Act.

Overview

Now more than ever, federal agencies are being tasked with reaching out to stakeholders on their data policies, uses, and strategies. But this work can be difficult to understand, let alone execute. On May 2, the Data Foundation and the Center for Open Data Enterprise hosted government experts to discuss the new requirements for engaging stakeholders and, more importantly, the ways in which it can help agencies deliver on their missions. We released a toolkit designed to help agencies fulfill the engagement requirements in the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act — as well as other executive orders and the President’s Management Agenda — and heard perspectives from experts on:

  • The value of stakeholder engagement in the federal context
  • How the general requirements for stakeholder engagement affect data and evidence activities
  • How to better prioritize understanding appropriate and unique contexts of stakeholders in engagement processes

Speakers

  • May Aydin, Science Advisor, Office of the Director, National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES)
  • Kathleen Carroll, U.S. Digital Corps Fellow, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, InnovationX
