The Global Digital Single Market Data Alliance (DSMDA) serves as a convening platform engaging governments, regulators, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to build the robust climate and natural capital open-source data ecosystems market actors need to access green finance, carbon markets, and comply with statutory reporting demands.
The establishment of these investor-grade data ecosystems is critical to resolving current data challenges that undermine the development of new markets and flow of capital needed to power the green transition in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Working across diverse country contexts, the DSMDA designs and tests replicable models while building networks that drive adoption in LMICs across the globe. Our approach prioritizes collaboration, open source solutions for public good, digital-first design, data integrity, modularity and interoperability, and financial sustainability.
The Alliance engages in initiatives that advance the mission of the Alliance and where the team can fill gaps and bring new added value with open data standards that allow data to flow like water.
The SME Data Unlock Initiative
SME Data Unlock is a pioneering open-source initiative to empower the 200 million small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in LMICs to automate and share verifiable emissions and water with financial institutions to unlock green finance, to meet global supply chain reporting demands, and engage in smart resource management.
The Initiative will convene governments, utility providers, financial institutions, SMEs and other stakeholders to design, pilot, and institutionalize best practices for investor-grade data-sharing platforms and trust frameworks. The DSMDA has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the government of the Republic of North Macedonia and numerous other countries have expressed their desire to be part of this effort.
Climate and natural capital data and market infrastructure
The DSDMA will leverage its position as a neutral convenor with deep global expertise and a long history of working across multi-sector, governmental, and regulatory settings to address strategic breaks and bottlenecks in the investor-grade data value chain and market infrastructure for both climate and natural capital. This work will focus on promoting alignment of open standards, accounting methodologies, and governance frameworks that currently prevent the development of trusted, scalable, and interoperable systems.
Stakeholders interested in being part of the SME Data Unlock initiative and governments interested in being part of the SME Data Unlock Country Council can use this form to initiate engagement with the team.
