Past Events

Overview

The full-day workshop featured a mix of presentations and collaborative discussion sessions about urban GHG monitoring. The morning began with an introduction to Urban-GEMMS, an operational system being developed to provide emissions estimates in the DC-Baltimore area. This was followed by lightning talks where participants shared their current approaches to emissions tracking and highlighted pressing challenges and data needs.

Afternoon breakout discussions explored key topics: the potential applications of improved GHG data for local climate action, current challenges and opportunities in inventory development and carbon accounting, and public-private collaboration opportunities. During the breakout sessions, participants discussed the importance of clearly mapping responsibilities across federal, state, and local governments, including understanding what actions are driven by laws versus regulations versus citizen demands.
