Overview
Enactment of the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018 kicked off a new phase of activities in government to share data, build evidence, and protect privacy, including a charge to strengthen the unique role of the federal statistical system. The Evidence Act directed the White House Office of Management and Budget to issue regulations to provide guidance for agencies about how to support statistical agencies and units in their missions and responsibilities. The Data Foundation hosted a conversation on the importance of this proposed rule for public sector data, the rule’s role in strengthening public trust in government data and statistics, and how the proposed regulation fits into the implementation of the Evidence Act and the larger vision of evidence-informed policymaking.
